Jonathan A. Murphy
Jonathan grew up primarily in Orrington, Maine and attended Hampden
Academy, graduating there in 1988. After attending Maine
Maritime Academy, he married Andrea Eaton from Deer Isle; they settled
in Bucksport and they went on to raise three children. Along the way,
Jonathan became employed at ZF Lemforder in
Brewer, Maine. Lemforder ultimately sent him to school to become an
electrician, where he earned an Associate in Applied Science Deegree in
Electrical Power Technology at Eastern Maine Technical College (now
Eastern Maine Community College). Jonathan worked at the company for
12,000 hours under a Master
Electrician over nine years, the first requirement to becoming a Master Electrician.
When ZF Lemforder closed, he returned to school and become licensed as a
Master Electrician July 2011. But Jonathan had
a vision for a small business that would be more than just electrical
work, and he continued in school. He's working to become certified in
heating and cooling as well--thus the name of the business, Hot & Cold
Electric. Electrical. As a Master Electrician, Jonathan can do
anything electrical: installations, upgrades, services, and
improvements, doing anything from putting up a light fixture to wiring a
three-phase motor.
Cooling. Jonathan is certified by the
EPA as a Universal Refrigeration Technician. He can work on some commercial
refrigeration devices, air conditioners, and ice machines, and is
certified to do refrigeration installations. Heating. Jonathan will be licensed to work with gas appliances
and is also currently certified as an installer of Fujitsu mini-split
heat pumps. By May
2013, he will have his gas and oil boiler apprentice license. He'll need
to work under a master boiler technician for six months to be fully
licensed, but then will be able to do furnace cleanings, installations,
gas conversions, and water heaters.
By the end of 2013, Jonathan's plan is to be able to do everything
electrical, heating, and cooling on his own. This
is part of his vision to provide a one-stop, full-service business. In
many cases, a homeowner would have to hire three different people to do
all the wiring, heating, and cooling in a house; with Hot & Cold
Electric, Jonathan will be able to do it all. Not only will this save
customers money, but provide a complete service that doesn't involve
multiple companies and potentially confusing communications. Jonathan
will deal directly with the homeowner or contractor, and get it all
done. Read Jonathan's essay on his life with electricity, which began
at age 6, by clicking here. |
